On World Press Freedom Day, The Media Association Jamaica released a declaration. The media sector in Jamaica has invested in accountability journalism. They have trained reporters and built editorial standards to inform the public. The media sends journalists to communities, boardrooms, courthouses, and corridors of power to seek the truth. The media faces challenges. Misinformation and disinformation are daily realities. The media's resilience is built on its communities and the impact of its work. The commitment to accuracy, fairness, independence, and public interest journalism is non-negotiable. The media is adapting to new platforms but will not compromise its principles. The media believes that an informed citizenry is the foundation of a functioning democracy. The press is free because it chooses to practice it.
