KINGSTON, Jamaica — The University of the West Indies (UWI) has announced its involvement in the IntegraGuard Project, a collaborative initiative with the University of the West of Scotland (UWS) aimed at addressing academic misconduct, particularly in light of the increasing use of generative artificial intelligence in higher education. In a press release issued on Thursday, UWI stated that this partnership places it among a select group of global universities alongside UWS, dedicated to reimagining integrity systems that are equitable, data-driven, transparent, and prepared for the future. Through the IntegraGuard Proof-of-Concept, UWI is actively collaborating with UWS to develop and refine a comprehensive academic integrity management system. This system will incorporate AI-assisted detection, investigation workflows, policy compliance, and institutional reporting mechanisms. The initiative also aims to bolster academic governance and promote a cohesive approach to academic integrity across its various campuses. A delegation from UWS visited UWI's Mona Campus from April 23 to 28, 2026, under the coordination of UWI's Office of the Board for Undergraduate Studies (OBUS). During this visit, they engaged with faculty, staff, students, and policymakers through a series of public lectures, demonstrations, workshops, and student-centered sessions. This program culminated in the presentation of a newly tailored version of IntegraGuard for UWI, discussions on future steps, and networking
