Adjoa Obuobia Darko-Opoku, the Administrator of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, has emphasized the necessity for a more cohesive and collaborative strategy to tackle cardiometabolic diseases both in Ghana and throughout Africa. During the CREATE dissemination event and the unveiling of The Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology Review Series, she expressed concerns about the continent's escalating issues with diseases like hypertension and diabetes. "We are not preparing for an impending surge of cardiometabolic diseases; we are already experiencing it," she remarked. Mrs. Darko-Opoku pointed out that the conventional method of handling these health issues in a piecemeal fashion is no longer sufficient, advocating for a shift towards coordinated, patient-focused healthcare systems. She highlighted CREATE as a groundbreaking initiative aimed at transitioning from disjointed care to integrated service provision, concentrating on practical, scalable solutions that can enhance patient outcomes. She asserted that the future of healthcare depends on cross-sector collaboration, service integration, and the establishment of systems that effectively meet community needs. The event convened health specialists, researchers, and policymakers who engaged in discussions about enhancing the management of cardiometabolic diseases and reinforcing health systems across Africa.
