The National Works Agency (NWA) in Jamaica is advising that a section of the Broadgate main road in St. Mary is severely compromised. A pipe culvert has been damaged by fire from beneath the road embankment, causing a partial collapse. As a result, the northbound lane, heading from Broadgate, is closed to traffic, and all vehicles are being rerouted onto the northbound carriageway. The NWA has cordoned off the affected area and is taking further steps to ensure road safety. Emergency work is planned to replace the damaged culvert. The situation highlights the need for caution when setting fires in sensitive locations, including near culvert pipes, as this practice endangers both farmland and motorists. Individuals traveling along the Broadgate main road are advised to exercise extreme caution, especially given the recent rainfall in that area of St. Mary.
