Benfica winger Gianluca Prestianni has been handed a six-match suspension by UEFA due to an incident deemed as 'discriminatory conduct' during a Champions League match against Real Madrid back in February. The organization announced that the ban was imposed for what they categorized as homophobic behavior, with three of those games suspended under a two-year probationary period. Prestianni, who is just 20 years old, has already completed one match of the suspension during the second leg of the Champions League playoff against Madrid. His provisional ban for that game occurred after Real Madrid's Vinicius Junior accused him of making a racist remark, an allegation that Prestianni has firmly denied. The confrontation escalated when Prestianni was seen covering his mouth while speaking to Vinicius, prompting the Brazilian to alert the referee, which resulted in a 10-minute suspension of the match. Following the game, Real's Aurelien Tchouameni stated that Prestianni claimed he did not use a racial slur but instead directed a homophobic insult at Vinicius. UEFA is now seeking FIFA's assistance to extend this suspension on a global scale.
