Trump Abruptly Cancels Negotiator Trip to Pakistan Amid Iran Peace Talks
The President of the United States, Donald Trump, canceled the dispatch of a delegation of negotiators to Pakistan, interrupting an attempt to resume peace talks with Iran. Trump justified the decision by stating that he saw no need to move his team for face-to-face negotiations at the moment. “I told my team a little while ago, because they were getting ready to leave, and I said, ‘No, you are not going to take an 18-hour flight to go there. We have all the cards. They can call us anytime they want, but you will not take any more 18-hour flights to sit around talking about nothing’,” the president declared in a phone conversation, as reported by Fox News. The American delegation would have been composed of names close to the Republican, such as Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner. The decision to suspend the trip occurred after Iran presented, through its chancellor, Abbas Aragchi, a set of demands for a possible ceasefire. According to the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Aragchi delivered a document detailing Tehran's conditions for ending the conflict, although the content was not disclosed. In a statement, the chancellor said he had presented “the principles of his country on the latest developments related to the ceasefire and the complete end of the war imposed on Iran”. Pakistan, which is acting as a mediator in the conflict, had been trying for days to reactivate the dialogue between the parties. The capital, Islamabad, was awaiting the resumption of negotiations
