Taylor Swift's Bold Move: Trademarking Voice & Image to Stop AI Impersonators!
Taylor Swift is taking significant steps to safeguard her identity against the rising tide of artificial intelligence impersonations. The singer has filed three new trademark applications in the United States, covering both her voice and her likeness. These filings, made by her firm TAS Rights Management, include an application featuring a photo of Swift performing on her record-breaking Eras Tour, as reported by Variety. Additionally, two separate applications are tied to short audio clips where she introduces herself while promoting her recent album, "The Life of a Showgirl." This move represents a major escalation in how prominent artists are attempting to protect themselves from AI misuse, which has become increasingly prevalent on social media. Swift has repeatedly been targeted by AI-driven fakery, including doctored explicit images and a fabricated political clip falsely portraying her endorsing Donald Trump. This decision follows a similar action taken earlier this year by actor Matthew McConaughey, who became the first major celebrity to use trademark law to protect his voice and image from AI manipulation. The image Swift selected to represent her likeness depicts her on stage "holding a pink guitar, with a black strap and wearing a multi?colored iridescent bodysuit with silver boots." This image was used to promote her Disney+ Eras Tour concert film. The two audio trademarks cover Swift saying "Hey, it’s Taylor" and "Hey, it’s Taylor Swift," which were used on Spotify
