The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) is urging Caribbean countries to enhance advanced practice nursing to improve healthcare access and strengthen health systems. In recognition of International Nurses Day, PAHO highlighted that nurses are the largest healthcare workforce in the Americas. They are crucial in promoting health, preventing diseases, and supporting communities, especially in rural areas. PAHO emphasizes that promoting advanced practice nursing, incorporating innovation, and increasing nurses' involvement in policymaking are key to improving care. Advanced practice nurses have specialized training and can take on greater clinical responsibilities. While over 100 countries have adopted these expanded roles, challenges remain, including outdated regulations. PAHO is working with countries to address these barriers. Expanding the role of nursing is seen as a strategic opportunity to achieve universal health coverage and meet the population's health needs.
