Former New England Patriots star Stefon Diggs was acquitted on Tuesday of charges related to assaulting his personal chef. A Massachusetts jury cleared the NFL wide receiver of felony strangulation or suffocation and a misdemeanor assault and battery charge. Diggs, appearing in court, calmly acknowledged the verdict. The incident was reported by personal chef Jamila Adams, who stated it was due to a pay dispute. She alleged Diggs struck her and attempted to choke her. Adams also mentioned a previous sexual relationship with Diggs. Diggs, 32, pleaded not guilty in February, shortly after playing in the Super Bowl. His lawyers denied the assault, pointing to alleged financial demands made by Adams’ representatives. After a two-day trial, the jury deliberated for about 90 minutes before acquitting Diggs on both counts. Diggs is currently a free agent after being released by the Patriots. He was previously in a relationship with rapper Cardi B, with whom he had a child last November, although they have reportedly separated.
