A task force established by the Techiman Traditional Council in the Bono East Region is warning residents against polluting the Tano Sacred River. Mr. Prince Yaw Duah, the task force leader, emphasized that the river is a major source of potable water. The Traditional Council is implementing measures to protect it. Anyone found polluting the river will face sanctions. Nana Kwame Kwane, a stool chief, performed rituals to appease the river deity due to the pollution. The river deity, believed to be a crocodile, historically maintained peace in the area. Mr. Emmanuel Lignule, Bono East Regional Director of the Environmental Protection Authority, commended the task force. He noted that improving water, sanitation, and environmental sustainability would help Ghana achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Parts of the Tano Sacred River have become a dumping site, threatening aquatic life and the habitat of sacred crocodiles and fish.
