The Island Traffic Authority (ITA) announced encouraging results for the first quarter of 2026, revealing a 33% drop in road deaths. According to the ITA, 62 people died in 55 fatal crashes by the end of March. Compared to the same period last year, fatalities decreased by 33%, and fatal crashes fell by 35%. Private motor vehicle passengers accounted for 21% of fatalities, with 13 deaths, an increase of 8%. However, private motor vehicle driver fatalities decreased by 46%. St Elizabeth recorded the highest number of fatalities with 10 deaths, followed by Westmoreland and Trelawny with eight each. St Andrew, Clarendon, and St James each had four deaths. Kingston, St Thomas, St Mary, and Hanover had two deaths each. Portland had a single fatality.
