Rema, the Afrobeats star, will headline the opening ceremony of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Los Angeles. FIFA confirmed his performance, marking a significant moment for Nigeria's music industry. The ceremony on June 12 will feature a star-studded lineup including Katy Perry, Future, Tyla, Anitta, and Lisa of BLACKPINK. In a departure from tradition, the 2026 World Cup will have three simultaneous opening ceremonies across the host nations. The celebrations begin on June 11 at Estadio Azteca in Mexico City, with Tyla, J Balvin, Mana, Alejandro Fernandez, and Belinda performing before Mexico's match against South Africa. On June 12, Toronto's BMO Field will host Canada's ceremony, featuring Michael Buble, Alanis Morissette, Alessia Cara, and Nora Fatehi before Canada faces Bosnia and Herzegovina. The Los Angeles ceremony will follow later that day. FIFA President Gianni Infantino highlighted the cultural diversity reflected in the artist lineup, showcasing music's power to unite people. Rema's appearance follows his performance at the 2023 Ballon d’Or ceremony, continuing a series of global achievements.
