The Pentagon announced agreements with seven artificial intelligence companies to integrate their advanced capabilities into the Department of Defense's confidential networks. This move aims to broaden the number of AI providers involved in military operations. Notably absent from the list is Anthropic, which is in a dispute with the Pentagon regarding the limits of military use of its AI tools. The Pentagon had classified the AI startup as a supply chain risk earlier this year, prohibiting its use by both the Pentagon and its contractors. SpaceX, OpenAI, Google, NVIDIA, Reflection, Microsoft, and Amazon Web Services, several of which already collaborate with the Pentagon, will be integrated into the secret and top-secret network environments, expanding military access to their products for sensitive applications. Reflection AI, a lesser-known company that raised $2 billion in October, is backed by 1789 Capital, a venture capital firm in which Donald Trump Jr. is a partner and investor. Since the Pentagon classified Anthropic's products as a supply chain risk in March and both parties have been in a legal dispute, the military has shown increasing interest in AI startups.
