The Michael Jackson biopic, simply titled "Michael," has debuted at the top of the North American box office, earning an estimated $97 million in its opening weekend. The film, directed by Antoine Fuqua and distributed by Lionsgate, chronicles the life of the late superstar. Jaafar Jackson, Michael's nephew, stars in the lead role. Analyst David A. Gross noted that the film's opening is record-breaking for a musical biography, but reviews have been mixed. Gross also mentioned that a sequel is in the works. The film has already grossed nearly $220 million worldwide. "The Super Mario Galaxy Movie" took second place with $21.2 million. "Project Hail Mary" landed in third place with $13.2 million. In fourth place was "Lee Cronin’s The Mummy" with $5.6 million, and fifth place went to "The Drama," with $5.6 million. The rest of the top 10 included "Hoppers", "You, Me & Tuscany", "Over Your Dead Body", "I Swear", and "Normal".
