President Trump also weighed in on the issue, expressing his view that Kimmel's remarks were a "call to violence" and should result in his immediate firing. The BBC has contacted ABC for comment. Kimmel faced prior criticism and was temporarily taken off the air last September after making remarks about the shooting of conservative influencer Charlie Kirk. In the latest incident, the joke sparked controversy, with critics accusing Kimmel of encouraging political violence. At a news conference, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt also criticized Kimmel's remarks. Trump and Melania were unharmed during the gala. The suspect, Cole Tomas Allen, was arrested and charged with attempting to assassinate the president, along with weapon offenses.
