KINGSTON, Jamaica — As the CSEC examinations approach in May, the JPS Foundation has once again demonstrated its dedication to enhancing educational opportunities by covering the examination fees for students enrolled in industrial technology, commonly known as electrical studies. According to a recent announcement, more than 300 students from 20 high schools across Jamaica will benefit from this initiative, which totals an investment of over $1.5 million for the 2026 academic year. This program is seen as a crucial step towards promoting STEM education, as it aims to enhance the technical skills of young individuals while eliminating the financial obstacles that might deter them from taking this vital subject during high school. At the ceremonial cheque presentation, Sophia Lewis, Head of the JPS Foundation, highlighted the necessity of equipping students with the skills and knowledge essential for contributing to Jamaica's development. "The future of our country relies on a capable and innovative workforce. By supporting students in technical fields, we are fostering growth and creating opportunities for the next generation," Lewis stated. Since the inception of this program, over 3,700 students have been impacted, with total funding surpassing $15.3 million. Through these ongoing efforts, the JPS Foundation continues to significantly influence the preparation of students for careers in technical sectors, including the energy industry.
