The Japanese government has introduced a series of measures to enhance cyber defense systems for critical infrastructure operators across 15 sectors, encompassing telecommunications, finance, and medicine. These measures were adopted at a meeting of relevant government ministries and agencies addressing the increasing risks of cyberattacks, particularly in light of the rapid advancements in artificial intelligence, including U.S. startup Anthropic’s AI tool Claude Mythos. The government plans to gather and analyze cyber defense-related information for operators. It will also promote the development of experts and encourage cooperation with other governments and AI development companies to enhance the operators’ cyberattack response capabilities.
