Opposition Spokesman Anthony Hylton criticized the Jamaican government for focusing on fiscal discipline and stability, arguing that these metrics don't address the everyday struggles of Jamaicans. He stated that people are facing rising food and fuel prices, stagnant wages, and limited opportunities. Hylton made these remarks during his contribution to the Sectoral Debate in the House of Representatives. He questioned whether Jamaica offers a future worth investing in and emphasized that the economy needs to produce prosperity that people can feel. He declared that fiscal credibility and macroeconomic statistics are not enough. Hylton argued that Jamaicans deserve a national growth strategy focused on resilience, opportunity, productivity, and long-term prosperity. He highlighted Jamaica's geographic location, human capital, English-speaking workforce, and proximity to major consumer markets. He stated that the country possesses a globally recognized cultural influence and untapped potential. He concluded that the current budget lacks a clear strategy.
