Some 934 modular or containerized houses intended for victims of Hurricane Melisa are already in Jamaica, with hundreds more on the way, Senator Abka Fitz-Henley confirmed on Friday, May 8, 2026. The announcement came in response to questions raised by Opposition Senator Dr. Floyd Morris during a debate on the National Reconstruction and Resilience Authority (NaRRA) Bill. Senator Morris inquired about the whereabouts of the promised container homes. Fitz-Henley stated that Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness had convened a meeting of government agencies, including the National Housing Trust, and advised that thousands of homes had been purchased. Fitz-Henley added that an additional 700 homes are on their way, with another 700 to follow. He assured that the modular homes program would not be plagued by corruption and that the program is subject to rigorous oversight.
