In 2025, Jamaica's healthcare system saw a surge in patient visits, with over 2.75 million recorded across hospitals and clinics. Minister of Health and Wellness, Dr. Christopher Tufton, shared these statistics during the 2026-27 Sectoral Debate. Hospitals received 1,155,949 visits, while health centers managed 1,596,871. Additionally, 44,116 diagnostic tests were completed, and 75,889 surgeries were performed. The National Health Fund Drug Serv Pharmacies served approximately 770,000 patients. This was achieved with a staff of nearly 24,000, including 4,745 nurses, 2,678 doctors, and 16,575 paramedical and administrative staff. Minister Tufton also announced upcoming capital projects to enhance healthcare infrastructure, including the Cornwall Regional Hospital and the Western Child and Adolescent Hospital in St. James, along with three major health centers in St. Catherine. These projects aim to improve patient care and increase capacity. Regarding the long-delayed Cornwall Regional Hospital, Tufton expressed optimism about its opening. The government is also modernizing land titling through a $1.42 billion partnership with Korea.
