The Jamaican government is set to invest $800 million in constructing 95 greenhouses across four parishes by the end of 2026. This initiative was revealed by Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Mining, Floyd Green, during his Sectoral Debate presentation. The project aims to fortify the climate-vulnerable agricultural sector. The greenhouses will be established in Clarendon, St. Ann, Manchester, and St. Catherine. The Content, Manchester greenhouse cluster will be transformed into a protected agricultural zone with storage and a new farm road. The Green Climate Fund (GCF) ADAPT Jamaica project will design and build greenhouses to withstand Category Five hurricanes, with an additional $1.5 billion earmarked for these structures over the next five years. The GCF project aims to enhance climate resilience for approximately 700,000 vulnerable farmers across central parishes. The government's focus is on building resilience in the agricultural sector, making this the largest investment in protected agriculture in Jamaican history.
