A group of Australian citizens, including four women and nine children, formerly associated with the Islamic State, have secured plane tickets to Australia. The group departed the Al-Roj detention camp in Syria and traveled to Damascus. An anonymous source reported that they plan to leave Damascus within days, but their return could be disrupted. The group has been held for nearly seven years. A temporary exclusion order could prevent at least one member from re-entering Australia for up to two years. Dr. Jamal Rifi, who has assisted the group for over a decade, believes Australia will be safer if they are allowed to return. The Australian government has stated that they are entitled to repatriation but will face the full force of the law if they have committed any crimes. Security agencies will also provide security advice.
