In March, twelve food businesses across Ireland were issued closure orders due to various violations. The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) issued eight closure orders, citing concerns about public health risks. Eight closure orders were issued under the FSAI Act, 1998, including Kebab House 66, which was closed due to rodent activity. Other businesses, such as Georgian Delight and Dailo Nepali Kitchen, were shut down for issues like dead mice and cockroach infestations. Four Closure Orders were served under the European Union (Official Controls in Relation to Food Legislation) Regulations, 2020. These included a wholesaler operating from a home with inadequate meat storage controls and an Asian grocery shop with unsanitary conditions. The FSAI's Chief Executive emphasized the importance of proper food safety management systems, highlighting recurring issues like pest infestations and unhygienic practices. Details of the enforcement orders are available on the FSAI’s website.
