Independent art fair opened recently in a new location in Lower Manhattan, offering a more spacious environment for its presentations. The fair's emphasis on solo presentations, which make up 70 percent of the exhibits, and tightly curated booths contribute to a digestible experience. The fair features works by artists such as Samuel Levi Jones, Robert Pruitt, and Nate Lewis. Jones presents new assemblages that question authority, representation, and recorded history. Pruitt displays portraits in coffee wash, conté, charcoal, and pastel. Lewis's hand-sculpted inkjet prints treat paper as a sculptural surface. Gallery owner Susanne Vielmetter reported positive early feedback, with some works already reserved for museums. Brazilian gallery Almeida & Dale is also participating, showcasing works by Chakaia Booker and Miguel Rio Branco. Charles Moffett reported strong interest in the gallery's presentation of works by the late Swiss artist Silvia Heyden. Towards the end of the fair, 12.26 is showing the work of Julia Maiuri. Meanwhile, MARCH has a solo booth of works by Dianne Settles. Dealers expressed optimism for continued sales in the coming days.
