A tragic incident at a San Francisco hospital has led to criticism of California's sanctuary laws and the Biden administration's border policies. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is urging Governor Gavin Newsom and state officials to retain custody of Wilfredo Jose Tortolero-Arriechi, a Venezuelan national. Tortolero-Arriechi is accused of fatally stabbing Alberto Rangel. ICE has issued a detainer request. Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis linked the tragedy to federal immigration policies. The suspect had reportedly displayed concerning behavior before the attack. Officials say Tortolero-Arriechi was first encountered by U.S. Border Patrol in 2023 and then released into the country.
