A Pakistani man, Abbas Ali Haider, has pleaded guilty to leading an international human smuggling conspiracy. He used fake film production companies to bring illegal immigrants from Pakistan into the United States. Haider, operating two fake companies, obtained visas for Pakistani nationals to travel to Ecuador, Cuba, and Colombia under false pretenses. The true destination was the southern U.S. border. The individuals posed as employees of Haider's companies. They were then guided to the U.S.-Mexico border and illegally entered California, Texas, and Arizona. Haider charged each person up to $40,000. He was extradited from Mexico in July 2025. Haider pleaded guilty to bringing aliens to the U.S. for financial gain. He faces a minimum of three years and a maximum of 10 years in prison. Sentencing will occur on July 30. The Justice Department, Homeland Security Investigations, and other agencies were involved in the investigation. The investigation was supported by Joint Task Force Alpha, which targets human smuggling and trafficking. The task force is a partnership between the Department of Justice and the Department of Homeland Security. It investigates and prosecutes crimes related to human smuggling and trafficking. To date, JTFA's work has resulted in over 455 arrests and over 400 convictions. Trial Attorney Bethany Allen and Assistant U.S. Attorneys Jared Kreamer, Hope and Evan Wesley are prosecuting the case.
