A Brazilian nun, Sister Nadir Santos da Silva, has died after attempting to rescue another nun off the coast of Sicily. The incident occurred near Catania on May 11. Sister Nadir, a member of the Carmelite Sisters Messengers of the Holy Spirit, entered the water to assist a fellow nun who couldn't swim. According to Sister Erica Souza, Sister Nadir lost her strength during the rescue and was pulled unconscious from the sea. Despite resuscitation efforts, she could not be revived. The sisters were walking in the water when a sudden sand depression caused them to fall. Archbishop Luigi Renna of Catania expressed his sorrow, highlighting Sister Nadir's selfless act and dedication to service. Sister Nadir, born in Jussiape, Bahia, Brazil, in 1980, leaves behind a legacy of faith and charity.
