FIFA President Gianni Infantino announced his intention to seek re-election for a fourth term, aiming to maintain his leadership of the global soccer governing body. He confirmed his candidacy for the 2027–2031 term during the FIFA Congress in Vancouver, just weeks before the World Cup. The election is scheduled for March 18 in Morocco, a co-host of the 2030 World Cup. Infantino expressed his honor at the prospect of running again. He took office in 2016, succeeding Sepp Blatter, and was re-elected without opposition in 2019 and 2023. During his time, Infantino has advocated for expanding FIFA competitions, with the upcoming North American World Cup featuring 48 teams and the 2023 women's tournament expanding to 32 teams. His tenure has also drawn criticism regarding high World Cup ticket prices and the decision to award the FIFA Peace Prize to Donald Trump. Earlier this month, CONMEBOL stated its unanimous support for the 56-year-old if he seeks another term.
