Blas na Bealtaine, the annual food festival from Blas na Gaillimhe, returns this May with a month-long celebration of food and culture. The festival showcases local producers, chefs, and international influences. The program starts on May 1 with a collaboration between Micil Distillery and Gourmet Tart. On May 2, Margaret Leahy presents Food, Foraging and Folklore at The King’s Head. Ivonka Kwiek of Sage and Lovage will host workshops on preserving and fermenting. MacNeill’s Bar at The Hardiman will host an evening celebrating Irish staples on May 4. Jp McMahon, a founding member, notes that Blas na Bealtaine marks the beginning of summer in Galway's hospitality community. Wine and food pairings are a highlight. Daróg’s Turas Fíona on May 11 will feature Central European wines paired with cheese. Cava Bodega will present a six-course summer tasting menu on May 14, and Galway Food Tours will host an Apéritif Tour.
