Joabe Barbosa embarked on a mission to run every street in Chicago, initially unsure of his long-term stay in the United States. Now, as he prepares to complete his journey next month, he knows Chicago will remain his home. Two weeks prior, Barbosa secured his stay through 2028, thanks to Roosevelt University arranging for him to teach undergraduate classes while continuing his studies. This followed an outpouring of support from thousands tracking his runs. Barbosa received nearly 500 marriage proposals and adoption offers. Born in Brazil and raised in London, Barbosa moved to Chicago in 2022 on an F-1 visa to pursue a doctorate in clinical psychology. Facing potential deportation after an unmatched internship, he persevered, running Chicago's streets for over 400 days and gaining over 50,000 followers. He said he could stay with someone from every Chicago neighborhood for free for a year. The university provided financial support. On June 14, he will complete his final run down Michigan Avenue. Despite not being American, Barbosa has made Chicago his home, showcasing the community's love and embrace of those who truly embrace the city.
