Gandelman's childhood in Brazil was happy, filled with family, ballet, acting, and bike rides. At nine, a rare cancer diagnosis led to surgeries and treatment in New York. She received immense support from her community. At 15, a recurrence led to amputation, which she accepted as part of her journey. She found solace in swimming and water polo, and even studied English in England. Despite further setbacks, she pursued law.
After working in law, she pursued a master's in environmental law. Seeking a new chapter, she made aliyah to Israel. The Jewish Agency helped her, though they were inexperienced with disabilities. She faced challenges in absorption centers but found jobs and a sense of belonging in customer service. However, she faced stares and questions, leading to depression.
