Channah Appel, originally from Chicago and Cleveland, has dedicated her life to making a difference. From her time as the national president of NCSY to her current role as a program director at Neve Yerushalayim seminary and a medical clown, she consistently seeks to improve society. Appel moved to Israel in 1981 and returned later, after spending time in the US. She met her husband, Rabbi Yehuda Appel, in 1980 and they married in 1981. She credits the Cleveland Jewish community for her interest in living in Israel. In the US, she led the local NCSY branch and taught at schools. In 2021, she returned to Israel. In 2022, she became a medical clown, bringing emotional support and cheer to patients. She prefers working with adults, often visiting wards where smiles are rare. Appel's clowning is often improvised, adapting to each situation. She also helped refugees after October 7, providing clothing and support. Appel's life embodies her belief in making a difference, as she continues to work for the community. She is also involved in the community and is known for her strong opinions on the Israeli bureaucracy.
