FIFA announced a significant increase in financial distributions for this year's World Cup, raising payments to nearly US$900 million. The decision follows concerns raised by FIFA members about the high costs of participating in the tournament. The total money shared from the tournament, which will be held in Mexico, Canada, and the United States, will now be US$871 million, up from the initial US$727 million announced in December. The increase comes after a meeting of FIFA's ruling council. FIFA has increased the award for preparation costs to US$2.5 million for each of the 48 qualified teams and raised the payment for qualifying for the tournament to US$10 million. FIFA President Gianni Infantino stated that FIFA is in a solid financial position and is reinvesting resources back into the game. FIFA is projected to earn around US$13 billion from the current four-year World Cup cycle.
