A man, Jaime Ernesto Alvarez-Gonzalez, was arrested for impersonating a U.S. Border Patrol agent. Alvarez-Gonzalez, who overstayed his tourist visa, pleaded guilty to the charges. On January 8, he was observed following a real Border Patrol agent in San Diego, California, using a black Ford F-150 modified to resemble an undercover federal vehicle. He was also in possession of firearms, which is a violation given his legal status. The truck had a Border Patrol sticker, fake antennas, and a dashboard lightbar, though the license plate frame misspelled 'Federal.' Alvarez-Gonzalez was actively searching for federal agents involved in ICE and Border Patrol operations and was wearing a face mask and a 'thin green line' hat. When confronted, he became aggressive. The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of California is handling the case.
