In a high-stakes trial nearing its end, Elon Musk's lawyer launched a scathing attack on OpenAI CEO Sam Altman's credibility. The core of the dispute revolves around whether OpenAI and its leaders transformed the non-profit into a profit-driven venture, allegedly to their own enrichment. OpenAI's legal team countered, arguing that Musk waited too long to claim a breach of the founding agreement, which aimed to develop safe AI for humanity. OpenAI's lawyer, William Savitt, stated that Musk's influence doesn't extend to the AI field. The closing arguments took place in a federal court in Oakland, California. Musk is suing OpenAI and Altman for breach of charitable trust and unjust enrichment, accusing them of manipulating him into donating $38 million and then incorporating a for-profit arm, accepting billions from Microsoft and other investors. Musk seeks approximately $150 billion in damages, to be paid to OpenAI's non-profit, and demands the removal of Altman and President Greg Brockman. Musk's lawyer, Steven Molo, highlighted testimony from five witnesses, including Musk and former OpenAI board members, claiming Altman was a liar. Molo pointed out Altman's reluctance to unequivocally confirm his trustworthiness during cross-examination. Molo asserted that Altman's credibility is central to the case's outcome.
