Mexican drug lord Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman has requested a transfer from a US court to his native Mexico, according to court documents. Guzman, who is serving a life sentence in a Colorado maximum security facility, claims his punishment is "cruel." Extradited in 2017 after escaping Mexican prisons twice, he faces multiple charges including drug trafficking and money laundering. In letters filed with the Eastern District Court of New York, Guzman expressed his desire to be returned to Mexico, although he didn't specify if he wants to serve the remainder of his sentence there. He also complained about unanswered requests for documents related to his sentencing and stated that his trial verdict was unfair. Guzman has previously voiced concerns about isolation, poor conditions, and lack of family visits. The request comes as a new development in the case of the notorious drug trafficker.
