Amber Group CEO Dushyant Savadia told global engineering leaders that the lack of legal identity for an estimated 1.1 billion people is one of the world's biggest problems. He used Jamaica’s National Identification System (NIDS) as an example of how countries can address this issue. Savadia spoke at the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Laureate Summit, becoming the first Jamaican and Caribbean national invited to speak. He stated that people without legal identification are often excluded from banking, healthcare, voting, insurance, and digital commerce. He pointed to India’s Aadhaar programme and said Jamaica’s NIDS could be a model for other small island developing states. Savadia argued that lack of identity can contribute to crime and social exclusion. The IEEE, founded in 1963, has over 400,000 members and is a leading engineering and technology organization. Amber Group said Savadia was invited because of the company’s work in artificial intelligence, robotics, and fintech.
