At least 11 people were killed in a recent bandit attack on Gurbi Village in Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State on Sunday afternoon. Additionally, approximately seven people were reported dead due to attacks by suspected armed herders in Channel One community, a border settlement in Ukemberagya/Tswarev Council Ward in Logo Local Government Area of Benue State. These incidents follow a renewed wave of attacks across Nigeria by bandits and armed herders. The Katsina State Police confirmed the incident, stating that the attackers struck the village around 2:40 pm on Sunday, also injuring two people. According to the police statement, the Katsina State Police Command reported that suspected armed bandits attacked Gurbi Village, resulting in the deaths of 11 people and injuries to two others. The assailants fled upon the arrival of security forces. Normalcy has been restored to the area. The injured were taken to a nearby hospital, and the deceased's families have been allowed to bury them according to Islamic rites. The Katsina State Police Commissioner, CP Ali Umar Fage, has deployed additional tactical teams to prevent further attacks and has directed the Divisional Police Officer and Area Commander to increase patrols and collaborate with security agencies and community stakeholders. The command offers condolences to the families of the deceased.
