A Cuban immigrant, Denny Adán González, died in a U.S. immigration detention center in Georgia. The 33-year-old's death is being investigated as a suicide. The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) confirmed the death. González was the 18th person to die in the agency's custody in 2026. According to CoreCivic, the private company that manages the detention center, González was found unconscious. Emergency services attempted to save him, but he was declared dead. Journalist Andrew Free first reported the news. González was reportedly placed in solitary confinement after a fight with a guard. ICE stated that suicide is the suspected cause of death, but the investigation is ongoing. The agency is committed to ensuring a safe environment for those in custody. CoreCivic did not respond to questions about González's transfer to solitary confinement. The detention center has faced criticism for medical negligence and the use of solitary confinement. González's death marks the fourth suicide at the detention center.
