Cuba has condemned the new US sanctions imposed by President Donald Trump as "collective punishment". The sanctions were announced during the May 1 celebrations in Havana. Trump has considered taking over Cuba, which has been under a US trade embargo since 1959. Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez said the sanctions are "illegal" and "abusive". The sanctions target those involved in key sectors of the Cuban economy. The sanctions come despite moves toward dialogue. The latest measures took effect during May 1 celebrations, which saw huge crowds in Havana march to the US embassy under the slogan “Defend the Homeland.” The march was led by Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel and former revolutionary leader Raul Castro.
