The Chinese Consulate General in Kolkata has cautioned Chinese nationals against entering India from Nepal without proper documentation. This warning follows the detention of a Chinese citizen by Indian border forces. The consulate advises Chinese citizens to avoid areas near the India-Nepal border and to ensure they have a valid Indian visa before entering India. The open border and limited barriers increase the risk of accidental crossings. Those entering the country unlawfully may face detention, legal proceedings, and fines. The consulate warns against relying on local guides and reminds travelers of the need for written permission to enter restricted areas. The warning comes after the arrest of a Chinese national near the Jogbani checkpost in Bihar. Authorities are investigating the incident. Over 40 foreign nationals have been intercepted attempting to enter India illegally through the India-Nepal border in 2025.
