The 15-member Caribbean Community (Caricom) expressed “serious concern” regarding the ongoing hostilities in the Middle East, specifically the military actions in the Strait of Hormuz. Caricom is alarmed by the loss of life, threats to infrastructure, and the instability in global markets resulting from the conflict. The United States has warned Iran, while talks to end the war have stalled. Caricom highlighted the impact on maritime transport through the Strait of Hormuz, affecting global trade through energy markets and supply chains, which disproportionately affects smaller import-dependent states. Caricom reaffirms its commitment to the UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) and calls on all parties to uphold the right of transit passage. They urge the cessation of hostilities, de-escalation, and restraint by all parties. Caricom will continue monitoring developments, supporting diplomacy for peace and global stability.
