The board has lifted the moratorium on .223 caliber rifle applications and relaxed rules on some accessories, but education is the primary focus. According to Ministry of Defense and Border Security CEO Francis Usher, the priority is to ensure the public understands how the licensing system works. The new board, established in December of last year, conducted extensive consultations with the public, dealers, and current firearm owners. A common theme was that information wasn’t readily accessible. The board is making all information available, and applicants can submit their applications to the firearms control board office for consideration. The board also allows for certain firearm adaptations without further approval, such as scope accessories.
