On May 18, 1990, the Bank of China Tower officially opened in Hong Kong, celebrated by leaders from politics, finance, and commerce. The event marked a moment of unity, with smiles and handshakes. China's representative on the Joint Liaison Group, Mr. Guo Fengmin, expressed confidence in resolving issues between China and Britain. In his address, Mr. Wang Deyan, president of the Bank of China, thanked the Hong Kong Government for its support. Attendees included key figures such as China’s Finance Minister Mr. Wang Bingqian, Financial Secretary Sir Piers Jacobs, and others. The architect, Mr. I.M. Pei, was not present, but he received special thanks. Mainland companies also showed strong support. Premier Mr. Li Peng, President Mr. Yang Shangkun, and General-Secretary Mr. Jiang Zemin sent congratulatory messages.
