Prime Minister Gaston Browne departed Antigua and Barbuda on Wednesday for high-level international engagements in New York City. The focus is on climate resilience, renewable energy transition, sustainable development financing, democracy, human rights, and reparatory justice. These engagements are part of the Global Citizen NOW initiative. They will position Antigua and Barbuda at the center of discussions leading up to the 2026 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM). Prime Minister Browne will speak at a panel discussion titled “Bridging the Gap – The Frontlines of the Climate Crisis” on May 14, 2026, at Spring Studios in New York City. The panel will address the impact of climate change on vulnerable countries and the need for more equitable global climate financing. The Prime Minister will join a panel with Alok Sharma and Brazilian indigenous filmmaker Priscila Tapajowara. Environmental journalist Oliver Milman will moderate the discussion. Prime Minister Browne is expected to highlight the threats climate change poses to Small Island Developing States (SIDS), including severe hurricanes and rising sea levels. He will also advocate for reforms to improve access to financing for vulnerable nations. In addition to the panel, the Prime Minister will hold bilateral meetings with global leaders.
