AMD reported $10.25 billion in revenue for the first quarter, a 38% increase year-over-year. Revenue from the data center business grew 57%, reaching $5.8 billion. Net income rose 95% to $1.38 billion, up from $709 million the previous year. CEO Lisa Su highlighted data centers as the primary growth driver, anticipating increased demand for AI servers. AMD is preparing to launch the Helios system for AI data centers this year, aiming to compete with Nvidia. The company has secured agreements with OpenAI and Meta. Anthropic announced a new deal with Amazon, receiving an additional $5 billion in investment and committing to spend over $100 billion on Amazon cloud services over the next decade. This will provide significant computing capacity for training and operating its AI models, including Claude. The agreement also includes access to up to 5 gigawatts of capacity in Amazon data centers and the use of its AI chips. OpenAI introduced the Images 2.0 model in ChatGPT, a new image generation version with enhanced text integration. The key innovation is the ability to produce more accurate and legible writing within images, addressing a common issue in earlier models. This allows for the creation of content like posters and infographics with consistent typography and minimal errors, improving their usefulness in real-world contexts.
